ILOILO CITY, Oct. 8 -- Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGEN) is eyeing to install solar panels and a battery energy storage system to replace the diesel units that are already in the process of decommissioning in Barangay Ingore in La Paz district.
The decommissioning of the two units of diesel plants started last year and is expected for completion first quarter of 2026.
"It's economically not viable. We also have plans, as part of the sustainability, to change the technology, because it's an old technology. Part of our plan is to really replace it with solar and battery," MGEN Thermal Panay energy site head Antonio Cabalhug Jr. said in an interview on Tuesday.
