Manila, Aug. 18 -- The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is working to restore power to its remaining 2,000 customers, down from the 10,000 outages reported on Monday.

In a news release Tuesday, the utility firm said it is closely monitoring the weather conditions as monsoon rains are expected to persist throughout the week, hampering power restoration efforts in Cavite and Quezon provinces.

"Our crews and field personnel are working overtime to address concerns and safely restore power in areas affected by the habagat. Rest assured that we will not stop until service is restored to the last affected customer," Meralco vice president and head of corporate communications Joe Zaldarriaga said.
