Manila, March 12 -- The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in the Ilocos Region (PSA-1) reported a slowdown in inflation in La Union and Pangasinan provinces in February compared to January, primarily due to a decrease in prices of some agricultural products.

La Union's inflation rate eased to 1.2 percent in February from 1.4 percent in January, according to PSA-La Union Chief Statistical Specialist Danites Tenido in an online forum Thursday.

Tenido said the main source of the decrease was food and non-alcoholic beverages, particularly poultry and pork (fresh, chilled, or frozen), which recorded -1.1 percent inflation from 13.5 percent, and -0.9 percent from 7.3 percent, respectively.
