Manila, March 10 -- President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday (New York time) called for sustained policy reforms and cultural transformation to achieve genuine gender equality worldwide.

Speaking at the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations (UN) headquarters here, Marcos said governments must continue strengthening laws that protect women and promote equal opportunities.

"True equality requires not only policy change, but cultural change," Marcos said.

Marcos emphasized the need to confront violence against women in all its forms.

He called on the other countries to challenge long-standing attitudes and assumptions that limit women's roles.
