Manila, Feb. 18 -- The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 11 (Davao Region), together with the Regional Taxi Operators Association (RTOA), formally launched 19 electric vehicle (EV) taxi units on Wednesday, which will soon ply the city's thoroughfares.
RTOA president Ryan Sia said the initiative is still in its pilot phase, with the EVs being gradually rolled out as substitution units.
"Substitution means old taxis will be replaced by EVs. We are in a study phase right now," he said in an interview.
The EV units are from Krizia, Maro, Durian City Transport Taxi, and Maligaya Taxi operating in this city.
