VILLABA, Oct. 9 -- The local government here is preparing to relocate at least 194 families, or about 600 individuals, from Tagbubunga village to a safer area, following the recommendation of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) amid the risks of rockslides.
In an interview on Thursday, Mayor Vincent Veloso said these residents live near a rockslide-prone area, placing their lives at risk not only during the rainy and typhoon seasons but also amid the series of aftershocks being felt from the 6.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Bogo City, Cebu, located over 40 kilometers from Villaba town.
On Oct. 3, a rockslide incident occurred following a strong aftershock, prompting panic among residents who immediately fled to safer ground.
