Ilonggos warned vs dengue, leptospirosis despite drop in cases
Manila, Sept. 8 -- Dengue cases in Iloilo province have dropped by 39 percent from last year, but health officials are warning residents to remain vigilant as transmission continues and leptospirosis has claimed 12 lives.
The Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) recorded 2,668 dengue cases, including 12 deaths, from Jan. 4 to Aug. 29, according to the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit.
The figure is down from 4,348 cases and 18 deaths recorded during the same period in 2025.
"Even with the reduction in the overall provincial trend, there is still active transmission of dengue in the province," said Dr. Maria Socorro Quinon, IPHO head. "For the current morbidity week, we have recorded 266 new cases."
