LAOAG CITY, Dec. 11 -- The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Ilocos Norte is seeking the passage of an ordinance ensuring protection of pedestrians amid the hazards of the road.

"We have observed in the past months and years that we seem to disregard the importance of pedestrian lanes and walkways," Board Member Saul Paolo Lazo said in a media interview on Thursday.

"So we thought of passing this ordinance to remind operators of motor vehicles and fellow road users to respect the pedestrian right-of-way."

As chairperson of the Committee on Laws, Rules, Ethics and Privileges, Lazo, who is a lawyer by profession, presided over a public hearing on Wednesday on the ordinance known as the "Safe Pedestrian Lanes of Ilocos Norte."
