Manila, Aug. 25 -- Sen. Erwin Tulfo on Tuesday raised the possibility of imposing stiff penalties on social media platforms that repeatedly fail to keep violent and graphic material involving children off their sites, as senators rallied behind stronger safeguards against harmful online content.

In a privilege speech, Tulfo questioned whether the community standards of major platforms are being effectively enforced, citing the online circulation of disturbing images and videos linked to the recent school shootings in Zamboanga City and Tacloban City.
