Manila, July 14 -- The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has earmarked PHP12.62 million in emergency loans for members and pensioners in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro after the municipality was placed under a state of calamity due to prolonged dry conditions and water shortages caused by the lingering effects of El Nino.

In a news release Tuesday, GSIS said some 485 active members and old-age and disability pensioners may avail of the emergency loan program until July 24 through the GSIS Touch mobile application.

"A total of 485 GSIS active members and old-age and disability pensioners may apply for the loan. GSIS has allocated an estimated PHP12.62 million for the emergency loan program," the GSIS said.
