DUMAGUETE CITY, Dec. 12 -- The Department of Agriculture (DA), through the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), will provide indemnity to as many qualified farmers in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, whose crops and livestock were destroyed by Typhoon Tino last month, an official said on Friday.

Edna Lhou Masicampo, Canlaon City's public information officer, said in an interview that national and local authorities are conducting site visits and compiling reports to identify the farmers who suffered losses due to the typhoon's destruction.

Initially, the DA and the PCIC collaborated with the city agriculture office to distribute indemnity checks of some PHP1.28 million to 96 rice farmers in Canlaon City recently.
