In a media interview during his visit to Masbate City, Marcos said Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr., who chairs the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), flew to Cebu to evaluate the impact of the strong quake.

Marcos also expressed the government's readiness to assist displaced individuals.

"We're still assessing the damage there, but the earthquake was very strong," Marcos said, lamenting the "big number" of casualties recorded in the aftermath of the 6.9 magnitude earthquake.
