Manila, April 29 -- The Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday recognized the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation (GBF) as one of its "DepEd Heroes" for its support to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and teacher development.

In a statement, DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara lauded the "visionary leadership" of the GBF for helping advance education reforms in the Philippines.

"The DepEd Hero Award gives recognition to the people who really go out of their way and do extraordinary things to help our learners and our teachers, and advance the cause of education reform in our country," he said.
