TACLOBAN CITY, Oct. 23 -- One-hundred seventy-seven students and 10 faculty members of the Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation in Lucena City, Quezon province fell victim to suspected food poisoning in Palompon, Leyte province on Wednesday.
The local government unit on Thursday expressed serious concern over the incident.
The victims manifested signs of possible food poisoning shortly after visiting the pristine Kalanggaman Island for an educational tour.
The victims were BS Tourism Management and BS Hospitality Management students.
Symptoms first manifested 10 p.m. shortly after they left the area.
One-hundred twelve students are still confined at Baybay City Hospital. The remaining have been discharged.
