LEGAZPI CITY, Jan. 19 -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) has committed to providing temporary employment to families displaced by the ongoing unrest of Mayon Volcano in Albay province.

During the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon program on Monday, DSWD-5 Director Norman Laurio said affected families will be enrolled in the agency's cash-for-work program.

"Some will clean the evacuation centers, others will plant vegetables. After that, DSWD will pay them PH435 per family per day for 30 days. This will give them funds to support their children's schooling and meet their families' food and daily needs while they are unable to earn a living because of Mayon's activity," Laurio said in Filipino.
