Manila, Sept. 18 -- The Cordillera Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) has directed local government units and disaster offices to help disseminate an advisory urging residents to temporarily suspend mining activities as rains from successive weather disturbances heighten risks.

Albert Mogol, CDRRMC chair and Office of Civil Defense regional director, issued the reminder during a pre-disaster risk analysis meeting on Wednesday as Typhoon "Mirasol" exited and Tropical Depression "Nando" entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

"As protection, we ask everyone to refrain from going underground for mining or engaging in river-based activities," Mogol said.
