Manila, Feb. 23 -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to build a stronger bridge to replace the damaged Bridge of Promise in Batangas City.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, who inspected the bridge on Monday, said the measure is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to replace the bridge.

The bridge, serving as the main route for residents from Barangay Kumintang Ibaba to Barangay Gulod Labac, has already showed signs of deterioration.

"They call it 'pansamantagal'. 'Pansamantagal', meaning, it's supposed to be temporary, but it's been 17 years since it was built in 2009," he said in a statement.
