Manila, Sept. 15 -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to construct next year three retarding basins, each measuring six times the size of an Olympic-sized swimming pool, to minimize flooding during heavy rains.

According to DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon, the structures will be built in Luneta and Maria Orosa Street, which they are targeting to start in early 2027.

"We have reached an agreement with the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC) regarding three detention basins within the Luneta area; originally there were two, but one more was added.
