Manila, Sept. 24 -- Department of Transportation (DOTr) Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez ordered the verification of the almost 4,000 public utility vehicles (PUVs) plying routes along Commonwealth Avenue to ensure sufficient public transport in the area.
During the launch of the Inter-Agency for PUV and Commuter Safety in Batasan, Quezon City, Lopez ordered the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to check whether the 3,972 PUVs issued with franchises to ply Commonwealth are operational.
"Kung hindi, ibigay na lang sa may gusto [ng prangkisa] kasi sayang kung hindi naman nagagamit (If not, the franchise should be given to those who want it because it's a waste if unused)," he said.
