Manila, Sept. 8 -- An official of the Department of Energy (DOE) on Tuesday underscored the importance of the private sector in the government's bid to increase the share of renewable energy (RE) in the country's energy mix.

Energy Undersecretary Rowena Cristina Guevara, during the Net Metering Caravan held at a hotel in Taguig City, cited the rising interest in RE as more Filipinos, both households and businesses, prefer cleaner energy.

The government aims to increase the share of RE in the country's energy mix to around 35 percent by 2030, 50 percent by 2040, and 50 percent and more by 2050.

As of last year, the share of RE in the country's total energy mix stood around 25 percent.
