MANILA, Sept. 20 -- The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Saturday directed local government units (LGUs) in areas at risk from Typhoon Nando to carry out preemptive or mandatory evacuation of residents, particularly those in coastal, low-lying and landslide-prone communities.
The directive supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s call for proactive and unified disaster response to strengthen community resilience and save lives, according to a news release.
LGUs of affected areas were told to strictly enforce the no-sail policy and liquor ban to ensure public safety and order during emergency operations. Small-scale fishing and sea travel are suspended until conditions improve.
