Manila, March 9 -- The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has adopted the two-letter document type code "PP" for regular Philippine ePassports starting March 1, 2026.
In a statement on Monday, the DFA said the "PP" code will appear in both the Visual Inspection Zone (VIZ) and the Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) of all newly issued regular ePassports.
The move aligns with international travel document standards under International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Document 9303, which requires member states to adopt harmonized secondary document type indicators in passport issuance.
The DFA said the adoption of the "PP" code aims to further strengthen the integrity, security and global interoperability of Philippine passports.
