DA allots P35-M for drone ops, chemical sprays vs. sugarcane pest
Manila, July 28 -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Tuesday said it has allocated PHP35 million to help the sugar sector combat the effects of the red-striped soft scale insect (RSSI).
The funds are earmarked for the high-gear approach, including drone operations and chemical spraying, under the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA).
In a statement, DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel said this move seeks to protect the welfare of Filipino sugar producers.
"Every hectare we save means protecting livelihoods, preserving sugar production, and keeping one of the country's most important agricultural industries strong. We intend to act quickly, decisively, and in close partnership with local governments," he said.
