Manila, Sept. 30 -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) on Tuesday launched the PHP20/kg. rice program under the "Benteng Bigas Meron (BBM) Na" initiative in storm-hit Masbate province to assist residents there.
The National Food Authority (NFA) deployed truckloads of affordable rice stocks to the province following the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Opong (international name Bualoi).
In a statement, DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the initiative seeks to support Masbate residents by ensuring access to cheaper rice alternatives.
