Manila, Oct. 11 -- Defending champion National University (NU) Bulldogs opened their UAAP Season 88 men's badminton campaign with a commanding 4-1 win over Adamson University at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall in Malate, Manila on Saturday.

The Bulldogs banked on the carryovers from last year's champion team to demolish the Falcons, 4-1.

Former national team standout James Villarante teamed up with John Benedict Gam to pull off a 21-14, 21-17 victory over Adamson University's Gabrielle Ganoy and Noel Hernandez Jr.

Reigning MVP Lanz Zafra clobbered Kyrik Roldan, 21-8, 21-6, while MJ Perez downed John Russel Oliveros, 21-19, 21-12, in the first two singles matches.
