Manila, Aug. 20 -- The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Thursday reminded its personnel of their responsibility to properly handle and strictly safeguard their government-issued and personal service firearms after another fatal school shooting incident involving a student in Zamboanga City.

BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. issued a memorandum, emphasizing that "firearm safety is a continuing duty that extends beyond the workplace."

"Personnel who are authorized to possess firearms must ensure that their weapons are secured at all times and cannot be accessed by unauthorized individuals, particularly children and other minors," Catapang said.
