Beneco expects lower power rates for consumers after new supply deal
Manila, Aug. 6 -- The Benguet Electric Cooperative (Beneco) is expecting lower electricity rates for more than 250,000 consumers in Baguio and Benguet following the implementation of its long-term power supply agreement with Masinloc Power Partners Co. Ltd. (MPCL).
Beneco General Manager Melchor Licoben said Wednesday the cooperative expects its generation charge to drop to below PHP6 per kilowatt-hour from the current PHP7.40 rate once the impact of the agreement is reflected in consumers' bills.
"We are expecting a less than PHP6 generation cost compared to the PHP7.40 rate we have now," Licoben said in an interview.
