Tacloban City, Aug. 8 -- The Philippine Army (PA) and local government officials in Northern Samar have assisted a New People's Army (NPA) rebel who was wounded during a recent clash with the military.

The rebel, identified only as alias "Lag-it," sustained a leg wound during the clash between government troops and NPA members in the mountains of San Isidro village in Las Navas, Northern Samar on July 31, the Philippine Army (PA) reported on Friday.

Eight rebels and a soldier were killed in the firefight.

The wounded individual was reported to Las Navas Mayor Philbert Tan by San Francisco village chief Bobby Turbanada.
