Manila, Aug. 13 -- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has tagged as "disinformation" a video circulating on YouTube alleging a naval standoff between Filipino and Malaysian forces.

"This is entirely fabricated-no such incident occurred. It intends to strain our 60-year diplomatic ties with Malaysia, erode public trust in the AFP, and provoke unnecessary tensions," the military said in a statement Tuesday night.

The 12-minute video depicts a standoff between the naval forces of the two countries over conflicting territorial claims.

The AFP said such disinformation threatens peace and stability in the region, "serving only political or strategic agendas."
