Manila, Oct. 24 -- The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) arrested 39 individuals, including eight Chinese and one Taiwanese, for operating an online scam hub in Malate, Manila on Thursday.
At a press briefing held at Camp Crame, PNP-ACG Director Brig. Gen. Bernard Yang said the group was allegedly involved in a multi-tiered cyber scam network that preyed on victims through romance and investment fraud, diverting illicit proceeds through layered digital wallets and accessed devices to conceal the source of the funds.
He said the alleged scam hub had been operating out of three condominium units in Malate in the past year. The liability of the condominium owner and management has yet to be determined, he added.
