Manila, Aug. 28 -- The Department of Education (DepEd) has prepared school recovery kits containing supplies and materials for teachers and students, designed to be used during disasters or emergencies.

The initiative, named the "Edu-Kahon" Program, was launched at the Tabaco National High School in Tabaco City, Albay on Thursday.

Department of Education Secretary Sonny Angara said the program is the first of its kind in the country.

"This is beneficial for Bicolandia, especially since our last visit saw Camarines Sur heavily flooded. We based this idea on models from various international organizations," he said in an interview.

Angara added that the kits would help minimize class disruptions during calamities.
