India, July 31 -- Sony has been facing a significant fan backlash over its decision on ending production of physical game discs from January 2028 onwards. Endless fan posts on social media, PlayStation boycott plan, along with various memes have not been able to stop Sony from going ahead with its decision. Now, in a recent development, during its fiscal 2026 first-quarter earnings call, Sony has confirmed its plans to stop producing physical discs for new PlayStation games starting from January 2028 onwards.
