Instead of calling from a strange number, they now spoof contacts people already trust. Google's new Android fake call detection feature is designed to close that gap. It can warn users when a call appears to come from a saved contact but may actually be a scammer using caller ID spoofing and AI voice cloning.

In practice, your phone should not trust a name on the screen just because it looks familiar. It should also verify whether the call is really coming from that person's device.
