Punjab, Sept. 27 -- Universal has become the first studio to pass $5 billion at the 2026 global box office - $1.788 billion domestic and $3.218 billion overseas. Separately, Spider-Man: Brand New Day crossed $1 billion in five days.

Sixty-four per cent of Universal's total came from outside North America.
That ratio has been climbing for a decade and it is what now decides which films get made. A studio slate is built for a global audience first, which is why franchises, animation and spectacle keep winning green lights over films that only work in one language.
