Punjab, Oct. 6 -- The Sensex rose 685.34 points to 73,067.81 and the Nifty 220.35 to 22,776.10 - a second straight recovery session. 2,685 shares advanced against 1,495 declining, and 14 of 16 sectoral indices closed green.

That is the difference worth noting.
The Nifty Midcap index rose 1.08% and the Smallcap index 1.5% - both faster than the frontline indices. When smaller companies outperform and advances outnumber declines nearly two to one, the buying is coming from more than a handful of heavyweights.
Compare that to 30 September, when the index rose while 32 of the Nifty 50 fell.
