Punjab, Sept. 10 -- Indian equities snapped a three-day losing streak on Thursday. The Sensex added 138.36 points to close at 74,902.59 and the Nifty rose 46.30 points to 23,477.80, with banking and financial services leading a late recovery.

What held the market up

Domestic institutional flows did the work, supported by improving August equity fund flow data. That is the same pattern that has cushioned Indian equities through this stretch: foreign selling met by domestic buying, with the currency absorbing the difference.

What is still working against it

All three of the pressures on this market got slightly worse on the day, not better. Crude is above $100. The rupee weakened further. Bond yields firmed.
