Mirabai Chanu finally has an Asian Games medal, and India has its first in weightlifting in 28 years

Punjab, Sept. 23 -- Mirabai Chanu won silver in the women's 49kg at the Nagoya City Trade and Industry Center - her first Asian Games medal, and India's first weightlifting podium at these Games in 28 years.

The lift

A total of 198kg: 87kg in the snatch and 111kg in the clean and jerk.

It is India's 15th Asian Games weightlifting medal and the first since 1998.

What it completes

Chanu already had an Olympic silver from Tokyo, a World Championship gold, and Commonwealth Games titles. The Asian Games was the one that had kept getting away - through injury, through a bad day, through the run of bad luck that follows athletes in weight-class sports.
