Punjab, Sept. 23 -- Indian Railways has commissioned KAVACH 4.0 for the first time, over 108 route kilometres on the Malkajgiri-Kamareddi section of the Hyderabad division. It replaces Version 3.2, which runs on 1,465 route km of South Central Railway.
What KAVACH does
It is an indigenous Automatic Train Protection system. If a driver passes a signal at danger, or overspeeds, or is closing on another train, the system applies the brakes without waiting for a human decision.
Most serious Indian rail accidents come down to a human decision made under fatigue, poor visibility or bad information. An ATP system exists to take that decision out of the chain.
