Punjab, Oct. 2 -- The Civil Aviation Ministry has begun a set of reforms to make airport security clearances faster, and the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security is moving the whole system online. The timing, days after the Flydubai cockpit attack, is not coincidental.
What is changing
Security clearance. BCAS is moving to a category-and contract-agnostic clearance covering nine identified categories of aviation entity, valid for five years.
Today a vendor cleared for one contract at one airport often has to be re-cleared for the next. A five-year clearance that travels with the entity rather than the contract removes a very large amount of repeated paperwork.
