Punjab, Sept. 27 -- Indians get about 62% of their calories from carbohydrates - among the highest shares in the world - and most of it from white rice, milled grains and added sugar. The ICMR has now launched a national effort to work out which weight-loss interventions actually work in an Indian context.

The ICMR-INDIAB national survey, the largest study of its kind in India, reported:
Put together, more than a quarter of Indian adults are either diabetic or on the way to it.
The dietary finding, stated plainly
