PNG champions Melanesian unity on Ocean Protection
Fiji, May 12 -- Papua New Guinea is positioning the 2026 Melanesian Ocean Summit as a major platform for regional unity, climate action and ocean governance, with leaders calling for stronger cooperation to protect the Pacific's marine resources and confront growing environmental threats.
Justin Tkatchenko, Papua New Guinea's Minister for Foreign Affairs, said the summit would reinforce Melanesian solidarity and strengthen the region's voice on global ocean issues.
