Years of struggle, 5 children in medical college: Kandhamal family battles poverty to fund their dreams
Bhubaneswar, Sept. 13 -- A family in Odisha's Kandhamal is witnessing an unusual achievement as five of its seven children pursue medical education despite severe financial hardship. Living in a kutcha house with an asbestos roof, the family supported the children's studies through years of farming and daily wage labour.
The family belongs to Sikbadi village in Daringbadi block. Bursi Pradhan and Anusuya worked hard to ensure that their children continue their education despite struggling to meet even their basic needs.
However, with five children now studying medicine, the family is facing a fresh challenge, meeting the cost of their further education.
