Bhubaneswar, June 6 -- A 65-year-old woman was trampled to death by an elephant while collecting mahua flowers in a forest near her village in Odisha's Sundargarh district on Friday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Gloria Toppo of Saunapada village under Raiboga police limits. She had gone to the nearby forest early in the morning to collect mahua when the incident took place.

According to local residents, Gloria came face to face with an elephant while collecting mahua in the forest. Before she could move to safety, the animal attacked and trampled her.

She died on the spot due to the injuries sustained in the attack. Villagers later spotted the body and informed local authorities.
