Bhubaneswar, Feb. 18 -- A woman died by suicide allegedly after jumping into the Mahanadi River from a bridge in Burla area of Odisha's Sambalpur district on Wednesday. The incident has left the local community in shock.

According to sources, the woman jumped into the river despite attempts by bystanders to prevent her. Police later recovered her body and shifted it to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), where she was declared dead.

The deceased has been identified as a resident of Burla. Police said she was married but had been living separately at the time of the incident. Her parental home is located in Khetrajpur area of Sambalpur.
