Two Odisha farmers attempt to die by suicide during Kendrapara Collector's grievance hearing
Bhubaneswar, Aug. 10 -- Tension prevailed during a public grievance hearing at the Rajnagar block office in Odisha's Kendrapara district after two farmers from Talachua and Dholamara villages attempted suicide in protest against alleged illegal shrimp enclosures (prawn gheries) near their agricultural land on Monday.
The two farmers, identified as Ganesh Chandra Mohanty and Ramakrushna Mandal, were attending the District Collector's public hearing to raise their concerns over the alleged encroachment and shrimp farming activities close to their farmlands.
Police present at the venue intervened and took control of the situation before anyone was seriously harmed.
