Bhubaneswar, May 1 -- Two individuals drowned in Kuanria Dam in Daspalla area of Nayagarh district in Odisha after going there for fishing. The two, residents of Odasar village, went missing since Thursday evening, prompting search operations by rescue teams.
One body was recovered on Friday, while the other person was still missing at the time of reporting. Fire services and ODRAF teams continued search operations in the dam, which is around 40-50 feet deep, even after more than eight hours of effort.
Locals depend on the dam for their livelihood and regularly go fishing. On Thursday as well, around 18 people had gone fishing when a sudden Kalbaisakhi storm hit the area.
