Bhubaneswar, Dec. 21 -- A tourist drowned while bathing in Chilika Lake at the popular Satapada tourist spot under the Brahmagiri block of Odisha's Puri district on Sunday. The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the area and raised fresh concerns over tourist safety in the ecologically sensitive region.
According to reports, the mishap occurred near the Chilika mouth when the tourist, who had come to Satapada for sightseeing, entered the water to take a bath. Eyewitnesses said the tourist was suddenly caught in strong and unpredictable water currents in the area.
Unable to maintain balance, the individual was swiftly swept away into deeper waters, leading to drowning.
