Bhubaneswar, Sept. 2 -- The Subarnarekha river crossed the danger mark in Odisha's Balasore following heavy rainfall in its upper catchment. The river's water level rose further after water was released through 13 gates of the Galudih Barrage in Jharkhand.

The warning level was at 9.45 metres and the danger mark was 10.36 metres at Rajghat. However, the water level reached 11.52 metres by 6 am on Wednesday, raising fears among residents living along the riverbank.

The third flood in the Subarnarekha this year submerged hundreds of villages in Baliapal, Jaleswar and Bhograi blocks. Several areas remained cut off from the outside world due to the flooding. At some places, floodwater around five feet deep was seen flowing over the roads. ...
