Bhubaneswar, April 23 -- West Bengal recorded an impressive 91.4 per cent voter turnout as the first phase of voting ended on Thursday. 

Likewise, voting for the Tamil Nadu Assembly election ended peacefully at 6 PM on Thursday, officials said. About 84.41% voter turnout was recorded as eligible voters exercised their franchise in the election to the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, a record.

Voting for the single-phase Tamil Nadu elections and the first phase of West Bengal elections began early Thursday morning amid tight security. The voting continued till 6 pm in both states today.

All 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu and 152 of the total 294 constituencies in West Bengal went to the polls today.
