Bhubaneswar, June 16 -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notices to the Centre, State governments and the Election Commission of India on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking to restrict the use of Aadhaar strictly as proof of identity. The petition argues that Aadhaar should not be accepted as proof of citizenship, domicile, address or date of birth.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice V Mohana sought responses from the concerned authorities on the plea filed by advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay under Article 32 of the Constitution.
